Towing and roadside assistance coverage is there when you have a breakdown along the road. It’s incorporated into your policy by adding this endorsement to your basic auto policy. Generally, it’s not included in your auto policy and you will be required to opt-in to have this coverage.
Not all carriers will have the same services under this endorsement; however, generally your auto insurance carrier includes the following services.
Towing
Jump starts
Tire changes
Pulling your vehicle out of snow or mud
Fuel delivery
Locksmith
It’s important to learn the details about the coverage offered by your insurance carrier. For example, it’s meaningful that you have 24/7 coverage with a towing and roadside assistance endorsement. Also, find out the towing mileage limit that your carrier will pay for with your coverage. Learn if there is a limit on the number of tows annually and if you are covered when driving other vehicles.
Some of the common issues causing roadside breakdowns are flat tires, dead batteries, lock outs and running out of gas. Hopefully, these more common occurrences are included in your carrier’s coverage. If you purchase a new vehicle, then check to learn if this coverage is included for the first few years. Some manufacturers are including some form of this coverage for a limited time on new vehicles.
If your policy includes towing and roadside assistance you are probably all set. However, in most instances this coverage requires that it be added. To learn more about this coverage and the details of what your insurance carrier offers, contact your F. A, Peabody agent.
